GTI values each team member and we strive to assure their safety while on the job. A well trained employee is a safe employee! Each employee is given our in-house safety manual upon hire. Our Safety Manager trains all field employees on proper operation of each piece of equipment. Our equipment operators are required to train on each piece of equipment they will be operating. The Safety Manager observes the employees’ skills and makes suggestions prior to issuing GTI’s Operator Certification Card. This includes proper use of all PPE.
We have informal tailgate training sessions for all field employees on a weekly basis covering a different topic each week. GTI conducts seasonal speciality training at our main office Training Facility Room, for dust control, chainsaw safety, OSHA 10 and 30 regulations. We also enforce strict driving guidelines for all foremen driving GTI trucks, utilizing an app that provides information on each truck’s maximum speed, excessive braking, etc. Employees are incentivized monthly with a chance to win a $100 gift card for the best driving record!
Our foremen attend local landscape and horticulture specialty training at the local UNCE facility and gardens, where they are trained on plant identification, proper pruning (specifically the difference between natural and sheared pruning), common pest and disease recognition and treatment, palm tree pruning and safety, soil types – all base knowledge to enhance their landscape skills. We also send our managers to the annual Desert Green conference where they spend two days gaining knowledge of more complicated landscape processes – soil chemistry, how/why water moves and is tied up in the soil, specific plant part functions, etc.
GTI employees currently hold the following certifications:
- ISA Certified Arborist
- NALP Landscape Industry Certified Manager
- IA Irrigation Auditor
